Soursop

Soursop is the fruit of Annona muricat, mainly known also as Guanábana, guanábano, name of Taino origin,or as graviola in Spanish. In Madrid I have found its pulp without seeds ready to prepare refreshing smoothies in the Mostenses Market, in the Chamartín market...

This fruit reminds us of the custard apple, they are from the same family but differ in appearance, Guanábana has a larger size, almost to 4 kg (aprox. 8lb), it also has soft thorns and a slightly sour and sweet taste. Although it is of tropical origin, it seems that it is beginning to be cultivated in Malaga and the Canary Islands.

Here is the recipe for the smoothie I prepare:

  • 120 g milk
  • 500 g soursop pulp
  • crushed ice to taste
  • sugar or honey to taste
